ExperiencePrevious student tutoring experience includes volunteer work through the Learning Assistance Program at Saddleback College, as well as free-lance tutoring among local students in the Mission Viejo and Santa Cruz areas for over four years. I also worked for an academic prep center in Cupertino teaching the SAT II Math, Algebra/Trigonometry, and Chemistry summer courses. I have been working as a chemist in San Jose for the last year, but I've left my research jobs to pursue tutoring and teaching full-time. Currently, I tutor free-lance and work on everything from SAT/ACT prep to chemistry to conceptual physics. I enjoy tutoring because it is an excellent way for me to develop my teaching skills in the subjects that I hope to master and teach someday; no two students think exactly alike, and it is important to me to help others develop their OWN LEARNING METHODS. Finding the most efficient approach to UNDERSTANDING a subject is something I focus on with my students; grades will only get you so far if you merely seek to memorize or "get by".
HobbiesI enjoy composing on the piano, tap-dancing, and making others laugh. I also read a LOT, especially when I'm eating. I have the great luck to love the subjects I study, and I try to bring that to the table when I tutor - it's important to me that others see that math and science aren't as scary or difficult as they're made out to be. Empowering and enabling students to understand and approach problems in their own way is key.

I absolutely loved Alexandra and I am so glad to have had Alexandra as a chemistry tutor. She was really friendly and tried to work around my schedule. She was able to thoroughly explain all the concepts and with her help I was successful in my Chemistry class! I highly recommend her.
Having Alex as my daughter's tutor for Algebra 2 this year has been such a relief. Alex is very calm and encouraging and worked really well with my teenage daughter. Alex was also able to help my daughter with her physics class as needed. I'm so disappointed she's moving out of the area! I was hoping to hire her for next year's math and science.
We were so lucky to have found Alexandra to tutor my daughter in Geometry. She has a knack for explaining difficult concepts and is very patient.
So helpful and patient! I was really worried about my college physics class, but Alexandra made the material easy to understand. She was always willing to find new ways to explain difficult concepts to ensure that I fully understood. She sincerely wanted me to succeed and was willing to have late tutoring sessions despite her hectic schedule. I really appreciated her drive to help me learn.
Alexandra was great! Her explanations make a lot of sense and she really takes each problem piece by piece. Her notes were also a huge help while studying. I definitely recommend her as a math tutor. She is the best!
Alexandra is a wonderful tutor -- she really sees when you don't understand something and she makes sure to explain in as many ways as she can! Very clear and neat, she helped make clear what I was not understanding and how to attack the problems better. A big help :)
Shes the best Tutor I have found on University tutor. Alexandra makes math easier for me, by elaborating on the concepts behind the problems. She is extremely nice and helpful, she helped me prepare for my calculus exam and I got a solid A. People please give her a call or e-mail she is wonderful!
