Experience

Previous student tutoring experience includes volunteer work through the Learning Assistance Program at Saddleback College, as well as free-lance tutoring among local students in the Mission Viejo and Santa Cruz areas for over four years. I also worked for an academic prep center in Cupertino teaching the SAT II Math, Algebra/Trigonometry, and Chemistry summer courses. I have been working as a chemist in San Jose for the last year, but I've left my research jobs to pursue tutoring and teaching full-time. Currently, I tutor free-lance and work on everything from SAT/ACT prep to chemistry to conceptual physics. I enjoy tutoring because it is an excellent way for me to develop my teaching skills in the subjects that I hope to master and teach someday; no two students think exactly alike, and it is important to me to help others develop their OWN LEARNING METHODS. Finding the most efficient approach to UNDERSTANDING a subject is something I focus on with my students; grades will only get you so far if you merely seek to memorize or "get by".

Hobbies

I enjoy composing on the piano, tap-dancing, and making others laugh. I also read a LOT, especially when I'm eating. I have the great luck to love the subjects I study, and I try to bring that to the table when I tutor - it's important to me that others see that math and science aren't as scary or difficult as they're made out to be. Empowering and enabling students to understand and approach problems in their own way is key.
