Experience

I want to be a tutor because I miss teaching. I was the only high school social studies teacher for an innovative STEM school in Chattanooga, Tennessee. For four years I taught and developed standards-based curriculum for the following courses: African American History, Economics, Government, Personal Finance, U.S History, Women’s History, World History, and 7th Grade Social Studies. Now I work for a non profit which is free of grading papers but is seriously lacking in the nerdy-history department. While teaching I had a 100% pass rate on the state US history exam. I developed a fool-proof method for teaching even the most boring of social studies classes. I can even make economics interesting. Scouts honor. I have experienced 11 countries (thus far), visited 33 U.S. States, and lived in Okinawa, Japan for a total of 3 years.

Hobbies

I am a lover of coffee, the coast, trees, and U.S. Soccer. I played softball in college for my university but have taken up a love of women's soccer in my adult life. I'm convinced the U.S. Women's National Team is going to win the World Cup in Canada this year. Also, I was a park ranger with the National Park Service for the last three summers. They have a great program called the "Teacher Ranger Teacher" program. In a nutshell, I absolutely LOVE my job but I really miss discussing history on the student level. I'd love nothing more than to spend a few hours a week breaking down the "Law of Diminishing Returns" with an economics student or debate the cause of World War II with a student of history.
