Experience
I have many years experience as a math tutor for college students as well as middle school students as early as grade four. A few of my favorite math subjects to tutor are the basic elementary math concepts from kindergarten through fifth grade, as well as geometry and algebra. I believe basic math is amazing in how much it covers, geometry is fun using any teaching approach, and algebra is fascinating due to its simplicity as well as its intricacy as a stepping stone to so much more. Originally from Portland, Oregon, I hold a master's degree from the University of Hawaii, as well as a bachelor's degree from Portland State University, both in mathematics. Other interests I pursue to balance out the mental challenges of math include science, crafting, DIY projects, music, hiking, pets, baking, movies, and basketball. I enjoy walking my dog and watching Portland Trail Blazers basketball games. I also have an interest in art and actually studied art for a while at a community college in Portland as a teenager. My belief is that math is a type of language that you won't completely understand unless you study its terminology and framework. Proficiency in the language of math comes with practice. The more you use it the better you get. My goal as a tutor is to help students learn the underlying concepts of math so they can later extend that knowledge to similar problem solving. I currently tutor students in pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, pre-calculus, calculus, statistics, trigonometry, elementary math, and middle school math.
