Education

I went to Earlham College in Richmond Indiana with a history major and Japanese and math minors. I graduated with honors and departmental honors and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honors society. I earned a 3.9 GPA with a 4.0 in math. I got an MAT from Earlham college and I've since taken four graduate level math classes at OSU and PSU maintaining my 4.0 in math.

Experience

I've been teaching high school mathematics for 7 years in three different states. I have a high school and middle school math teaching certification. I've taught in large public schools and small charter schools so I'm very familiar with students from diverse backgrounds. I've had a lot of success working with both students struggling in math and those gifted in math because I always plan my lessons around the students I have, not the hypothetical ones dreamed up by textbook publishers. I'm currently taking time off teaching to raise my infant son but I would love to keep working with students. I truly believe that there are not "math people" there are just those who have had good math experiences and those who have had very bad experiences and there's hope for anyone if they can connect with the right teacher. I've also lived and worked in Japan and can speak conversational Japanese. I'm currently teaching a Japanese course at a private school and would love to offer students support in this language that I love.

Hobbies

I love art, and juggling and video games. I read extensively and try to keep up with the books and TV shows my students enjoy. I try to make really ridiculous word problems involving your students and flying projectiles and I never lose patience. I love playing math games. I would love to support your student in learning to survive and hopefully eventually love mathematics.
