Andrea G.
Private tutor in Portland, OR
Education
I have a B.A. in English and a secondary teacher's certification from Rice University as well as an English as a Foreign Language teaching certification from the School for International Training. I am currently fulfilling prerequisites for Physical Therapy school at Portland State University and have a 3.9 GPA in hard-science classes including year-long sequences in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Anatomy & Physiology.
Experience
I was a Pre-AP 8th grade English and creative writing teacher for 2 years in Houston. Throughout my undergraduate years I tutored English, Spanish, and Algebra. I am fluent in Spanish and use skills from my English as a Foreign Language teacher training to tutor Spanish as a foreign language. My more more recent experience excelling in science and math related classes make me able to cover a wide range of subjects in addition to my more formal training in English. I believe strongly in the power of understanding our own learning styles. When I teach, I strive to learn how my students learn best and to teach them how to create study methods that resonate with how they internalize information.
