Education

Portland State University, 2010 - 2014 I was a double Major in Anthropology and Art History. In Anthropology my focus areas were Archaeology and Human Geography. In Art History my focus was on European art, although I am also very familiar with Japanese art, and 20th Century art.

Experience

I was a peer-tutor in high school. Additionally, my high school put a heavy emphasis on students reviewing one another's essays for English and History courses. I continued to review essays for classmates in college. For the past seven years I have volunteered as a teaching assistant and chaperone for my high school on an extended field trip to Southeast Oregon. While there, I help the students learn about Ornithology (the study and identification of birds), Geology, Astronomy, and local history. I have learned on these trips that every student can succeed with timely encouragement. Struggling is an integral part of the learning process, but providing the push for a student to believe in themselves and achieve a learning moment from difficult material is the goal. To me, witnessing the moment of recognition and understanding is the reward for assisting a student. I cannot remember my SAT score total, but I received a perfect score in Critical Reading. I scored 157 on the LSAT (I'm still thinking about law school) I have taken several Geography courses at the college level (Geomorphology, Human Geography, Glaciology), and voraciously read about Terrestrial Ecology.

Hobbies

I love to get outdoors, and birdwatching and mushrooming are my go to activities when a simple hike is not enough. I have been a birder since high school, but the hobby has become more of an obsession over the last two years. I have noticed that most people don't realize the tremendous diversity of birds in a city like Portland, so it is a huge pleasure for me to share what I have learned from years of observation.
