Private tutor in Portland, OR

Education

I was a chemistry major at the University of Oregon, and also took several general education classes at Portland Community College. I was in the International Baccalaureate program in high school, where I took IB Psychology, and also took several Honors and Advanced Placement classes. During the summer between my junior and senior years of high school, I had an internship as a content writer for a historical and cultural research center in Guam. I am currently working full time, but am learning web design via a combination of online classes and private instruction.

Experience

Growing up, I was always the sibling who helped the rest of the family with their homework, and the classmate my peers wanted to study with. I have been serving clients as a private tutor since January 2011, and I have experience with tutoring for high school and college classes as well as standardized tests. Clients have cited my clear communication, patience, empathy, positive attitude, words of encouragement, and reliability as reasons they continued to see me. My best subjects to tutor are algebra, psychology, chemistry, biology, and reading/writing. I enjoy tutoring because I love helping people learn and succeed, even when they didn't think it was possible. Anyone can help a student with their homework, collect their compensation, and leave, but in addition to homework help and test preparation, I also provide a safe place for students of all walks of life to be themselves and I am a genuine cheerleader of students' successes, both short term and long term. I want to get to know the learning style unique to you and tailor my style to suit your needs. I currently have open availability for both in-person and online tutoring in the Portland Metro area. Though my hourly rate is $18.00, I do offer packages as well: Bronze: $75.00 for five hours Silver: $130.00 for ten hours Gold: $165.00 for fifteen hours The packages can be split into sessions of any length of your choosing, but must be paid in full upfront for the special rate to apply. This guarantees you your desired slots in my calendar, and is perfect for students who see me long term. You can reschedule appointments after purchasing a package as long as it is 24 hours before the scheduled appointment time. I am also available for group sessions with classmates: 2 Students: $24.00 per hour 3 Students: $30.00 per hour I am located in downtown Portland, and am available to meet at coffee shops, libraries, or at the student's home per student preference. If you have any questions or would like to schedule an appointment, please contact me, and I look forward to speaking with you.
