Hobbies
During my years teaching English literature, at The University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada, I quickly discovered that the most rewarding and effective moments between student and instructor occur in one-to-one meetings. The tutoring environment is the ideal classroom, where a single student’s learning needs, academic desires and questions can be fully catered to, fulfilled and explored. I have worked with first-year university students, middle school students, all levels of high school students, and older adults. My advanced education, extensive experience, sincere respect for my students, and genuine love and enthusiasm for literature and learning make me an effective and valuable educator. I possess both a Master's degree and a BA in English literature, with a minor degree in History; and as the only member of my immediate family to have earned a college degree, I am acutely aware of how empowering and essential an education is. I also know what a struggle the learning process can be. This struggle, however, can be an enjoyable one. With the help of a quality instructor, the uphill journey of learning can be thoroughly rewarding. I fully understand how important and infinitely valuable a head-start and a detail-oriented guide are in such a journey. I am that guide, and I am that teacher. I provide instruction in various levels of grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, complex analysis and contextual understanding of literature, and writing composition skills. Additionally, I have tutored and worked with ESOL students. Furthermore, I have earned a minor degree in History and therefore enjoy routinely helping my students with their understanding of History and Social Studies assignments. My teaching style and my hours are flexible and accommodating to the individual needs of each student.
