I love tutoring because it is so rewarding. I love being able to give individual students the tailored instruction and attention they need to help them overcome learning challenges and grow in confidence! I also have a special interest in working with non-native English speakers and immigrant populations. I have spent some time living overseas and I desire to build connections with other foreigners. I want to help them have success learning English and functioning in American society, while also celebrating and maintaining their own cultures and languages. My experience includes four years in various Hillsboro and Forest Grove schools as a Special Education Instructional Assistant; two years living in Cote d'Ivoire (West Africa), learning French and teaching English to kids and adults; three and a half years at Huntington Learning Center as a tutor for students ages 4 through 18...teaching reading, writing, math, and study skills; six months leading a conversation class for English and Spanish speakers in Cornelius (to encourage communication between Hispanics and Anglos and help foster greater connection and community between the two groups).

Hobbies
I love to travel, and have visited multiple countries on service trips through my church or other Christian mission organizations. I have been to Brazil, Haiti, Kenya, Cote d'Ivoire (West Africa), and Germany. I love learning about different languages and cultures. My husband is also from East Africa (Rwanda), so I am excited to visit his country soon as well! When I have free time, I enjoy relaxing at home with my husband, watching movies and cuddling with my 2 cats. I also enjoy being creative. I love decorating my home, and I like to draw, color, and make creative gifts for friends and family!
