Education
I have a PhD in History from Princeton University, with a focus on Chinese legal history. I also have a Master's degree in China Studies from the University of Washington's Jackson School of International Studies. I did my undergraduate education at the University of Chicago, where I double-majored in Linguistics and East Asian Studies.
Experience
I love teaching and care deeply about making academia more accessible. I specialize in teaching academic writing, research, and study skills. Whether you need help learning to write an essay for class, or you're looking for support in writing your thesis, I am there to help. While I was completing my PhD, I worked as a teaching assistant and discussion section leader, and I also organized and ran an intensive writing bootcamp for East Asian Studies majors working on their junior and senior theses. I also offered individual editing and writing tutoring during this time. From 2005-2006, I worked as an English as a Foreign Language teacher in Shanghai, teaching grades 1-8. I also worked as an individual EFL in 2004. In addition to teaching experience, I have editorial experience that demonstrates my qualifications for teaching writing. I have edited academic translations for publication, doctoral and master's theses, and class papers for undergraduate and graduate students. I have experience working with students who have ADD/ADHD, dyslexia, sensory processing issues, and anxiety, and I welcome neurodiverse students of all types! I also have experience working with first-generation, returning, and other non-traditional students, as well as international students. I am happy to work out a study plan that meets your individual needs!
