Experience
To be honest, the only experience I have involved me tutoring my younger siblings, my younger cousins, and the kids in various elementary schools where my high school volunteered. While I never pursued it as an after school job or what not, I really enjoyed it. I love teaching kids what I know and how to approach different classes. As a student, I was known as being the type of person who sees things "differently." Upon growing up, I learned that I am the type of student who can't just rely on the books to make me "know." At the end of the day, my goal isn't to memorize all of Newton's Laws or all the elements in the periodic table. At the end of the day, my goal is to understand. To see WHY I had to know this. I don't memorize, I take the extra hours to understand. I know my experience is minimal and was done mostly voluntarily. However, with the experience I have, I know that a tutor's job isn't to repeat what the book says until the child has it memorized. The tutor's job is to make the child understand. The tutor's job is to find a way to make the child relate concepts to things that s/he finds familiar. The tutor's job is to make things interesting, yet productive. I want to be a tutor because I can do all this.
