English Major, Bachelor's Degree earned from Lewis & Clark College in May, 2013. 3.7 GPA. Work Study job (photo assistant) through the Publications & Communications department.

Experience

I tutored throughout boarding school at the nearby Boy's & Girl's Club. They were typically young in age, but some were upwards of 13 years old. Subjects ranged: English, Math, Science, History, Handwriting. I have also tutored a number of friends. I took a total of five AP classes at Mercersburg Academy in Pennsylvania, including AP Composition, AP Literature, AP Biology, AP U.S. History, and AP Chemistry. I also took advanced Calculus and advanced Spanish. My SAT scores were above average, but I prefer to tutor outside of standardized testing. I would truly love to become an official tutor. Throughout my school career, I witnessed a significant lack of tutoring and student support. Everybody deserves a chance to receive the help they deserve, especially when it comes to education. I recently graduated, and I would be honored to put my education to proper use. I have taken a good number of literature, psychology, and philosophy courses. My favorite subjects within my major were studying modernist literature and writing fiction short stories. Some other courses: Biology, East Asian Art History, Chaucer 300, Logic, Ethics, Fiction Writing (100,200,300,400), Communications, Social Psychology, Philosophy of Art & Beauty, Virginia Woolf Thesis Capstone, and two Spanish courses. I have a great ability to organize databases. I never talk down to someone because that person doesn't understand something. I love learning. I am great at time management. I am confident in my ability to speak clearly and concisely when attempting to describe or explain things. I always try my very best to help, no matter the situation. Positivity is key!

Hobbies

Hello! My first name is "Catherine," but I go by "Riley." I was lucky enough to graduate from Lewis & Clark College last summer and have been volunteering, writing, and traveling since then. Though it has been a fruitful experience, I am ready to move on to a new chapter. Teaching is one of my main focuses now, so I would be honored to help a child achieve clarity and build upon their academic confidence. Throughout elementary school and middle school, I experienced a number of teachers who lacked passion, or totally forgot about the importance of encouragement. Those two factors are crucial when it comes to learning, which is why I would love to spread my compassion and knowledge. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions! I look forward to hearing from you.
