Experience
I attended Portland State University, where I earned my BA in Communication. Since then, I have resided in Guangzhou, China, where I teach English to Chinese students. In addition to teaching, I have a great love of art, especially music. I've had the opportunity to teach guitar and music theory for a number of years, both in private lessons and through the city of Portland. I also have a passion for sports, and have taught them in various roles. Basically, I have a strong appreciation for learning, and a strong dedication to teaching. I am able to teach and tutor for ESL students who originally speak Spanish or Mandarin. When I am teaching or tutoring, I tend to be patient and flexible. Each learner feels comfortable with a certain way of learning, and my first goal in any teaching situation, especially private tutoring, is to discover that with them, and then learn their interests and strengths, so I can customize lessons that take advantage of these things, to keep them engaged during their lessons. I encourage my students to ask as many questions as they need to in order to understand what they are learning. Outside of teaching, I enjoy hiking, traveling, drawing, and writing.
