Private tutor in Portland, OR
Education
I have a BA from Lewis and Clark College in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Graduated in 2013.
Experience
Currently, I am interested in becoming a High School Science teacher. I have a strong passion for science. After almost two years of working in various biology research labs, I have decided that research is not for me. I am much more interested in working with people. I would love an opportunity to work with students one on one to get a feel for teaching before I go back to school. I have taken many relevant classes in college: Math: Calculus 1,2 and 3. Chemistry: General, Organic, Physical, Aquatic, Structural and Metabolic Biochemistry. Biology: Genetics, Evolution, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology. I also completed a year of Physics. My time in research has been involved in very interesting subjects. From 1/2013 to 10/2013 I was a volunteer Research Assistant in Dr. Vivian Hwa's molecular endocrinology lab at OHSU. Her primary topic of research was elucidating the roles of certain proteins in the Growth Hormone pathway. From 11/2012 to 11/2014 I was a Research Assistant I in Dr. Sunwen Chou's virology lab at the Portland VA Research Foundation. This lab is involved in determining the antiviral resistance of many different mutant strains of CMV (Cytomegalovirus). Both jobs involved working with living human tissue, DNA mutagenesis, and various other molecular techniques.
