Experience
I received my B.S. in Elementary Education from Western Michigan University in 2013 and hold teaching certifications for pre-kindergarten through fifth grade in Michigan and Oregon. Although my certification allows me to teach all elementary levels, I focused my studies in Early Childhood Education. I have worked primarily with children in preschool through second grade. I've taught Math, Spelling, Reading, Phonics, Social Studies, and Science. After graduation, I moved to Oregon, where I have since been working with preschool children aged two through five. Currently, I teach Science, Math, and Phonics. I most enjoy teaching Math and Reading. The primary reason I enjoy Math is that there is a clear moment when the process "clicks" and you can actually see understanding dawn. I value helping a child learn to read because reading forms the foundation of a student's later success both in school and beyond the classroom. With good reading comprehension skills, we have the ability to learn a wide variety of subject matter as we grow older and throughout our lives. When I'm not working with kids, I like to engage in physical activities such as biking, hiking, running, and yoga. On a slightly more unusual note, I enjoy aerial silks and trapeze.
