Experience
As a college-level writing teacher for the past six years, I have a great deal of experience with teaching students of varying skill levels, needs, and backgrounds, including hundreds of ESL students. I've taught English Composition at a few local community colleges, multi-genre Creative Writing courses at the University of Oregon, and K-12 ESL in South Korea. I am passionate about helping students at any level to realize their full potential as writers, and to learn the basic skills that serve as the foundation for success in educational settings, in their careers, and in the broader community. I create an interactive, supportive learning environment, and tailor my instruction according to the needs and learning styles of each student. I show students how to break down assignments or tasks into manageable pieces, encouraging and guiding them through the writing, reading, and critical thinking process as they learn and grow. I help students to build confidence as they develop skills and strategies that will enable them to be successful academically and beyond. I believe in the value of customized learning and one-on-one instruction, and I can help you improve whether you are working on an academic, research, or college entrance essay, want to enhance your reading comprehension or critical thinking skills, or need guidance with the fundamentals of English mechanics, including grammar, usage, editing, and proofreading. Improving your skills starts with setting goals: together, we can develop effective strategies to meet your goals successfully.

Hobbies
When I'm not writing and reading, I enjoy listening to a variety of music, taking leisurely walks and the occasional challenging hike, cooking at home or dining out at local mom-and-pop spots, and watching movies and good (and sometimes bad, guilty pleasure) television.
