Education

Teaching and Language Arts Background: University of Kansas - BA, English Lewis and Clark College - MAT, Education Education Research Background: Center for Research on Learning, University of Kansas - Special Education and Online Learning Research. At the Center, I began work as a copy editor. After editing thousands of math and science test prep questions, I became an administrative associate, where I worked on publication design, proposal writing, publication writing and submission, and day-to-day administration of our grant funded research. I'm happy to share samples of the writing and design I worked on at the Center. I consider this work (before getting into graduate school) to be my greatest professional accomplishment.

Experience

I've worked in both Language Arts and Journalism classrooms helping students become better writers and readers. I developed my ability to help aspiring and struggling readers and writers while working on several student publications in high school and in college. There is great value in being proud of what you've written and published for your peers and teachers to see. I can help you find that value. I've recently worked in education research at the University of Kansas and am beginning my journey towards classroom through Lewis and Clark's Master of Arts Program.

Hobbies

Reading classic and modern novels. I just started Grapes of Wrath (again) and am an avid fan of George R.R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire. When I was growing up, I read endless amounts of science fiction, fantasy, and comic books (they didn't call them graphic novels yet!) I have a vast library at home and am happy to loan books or make recommendations. These strong reading skills helped me complete my BA in English at the University of Kansas, with many highlights, such as an Editor on the Daily Kansan, completing my honors thesis, and being awarded with a research skills certificate program. Now that I am in beautiful Oregon, I enjoy hiking and going to the dog park with my wonderful yellow lab, Lindy.
