Experience
I want to be a tutor because I have had many wonderful teachers that helped me throughout high school and college. As a creative individual, I have always struggled with traditional schooling. Effective ways of learning for me are talking through ideas, drawing diagrams, writing notes in books as I read, and asking lots of questions. With the current time crunches of public schools, I understand the need to slow down and process what I am learning. This is normal, and I commend my students for acknowledging the need for extra time outside of the classroom to understand the information being given to them. I have six years experience in the theatre, from acting to lighting to costumes and makeup. In college I studied Fine Arts, and am experienced in photography, printmaking, sculpture, drawing, and painting. Throughout my time in college I read many dense essays and wrote many responses to art, writing, and historical movements. Over the past year I have engaged in many education projects in the community, including my most recent community class, Activism Object Making. I recently returned from backpacking alone in Europe for six weeks, giving me first hand experience of Western history.
