Experience
I worked in advising soon after graduating and have been in the education field for the almost 3 years. My ambition as a proponent for higher education will speak towards my goals of enhancing education for students of diverse circumstances in life and can be seen in my work history during and after my undergraduate study at the University of Washington. While at Washington I held the title of High School Lead at Cleveland High School, for a program called The Dream Project. The Dream Project is a program that places college students in a one-on-one mentoring relationship focusing on local low-income, minority, underrepresented population high school students from the inner-city. As the High School Lead of Cleveland High School, in the Beacon Hill neighborhood in South Seattle, I worked directly with the school administration to foster our program and its needs at Cleveland, Strategized with a board from our program to create meaningful and effective programs to foster educational and personal growth, aided the school's juniors and seniors with the college application processes, invited them to workshops held in their area (as well as on the Washington campus) and mentored them personally. During my time as an undergraduate I also worked as an unpaid intern in the Office of Minority Affairs under my mentor Jo-Nathan Thomas (who is an Easter alum), and studied the ins and outs of being an Academic Counselor at the collegiate level. I learned about the system that goes into helping students with their academics, as well as strategies to helping students with their non-academic problems as well. I also was able to be a part of a planning committee that helped to share an study abroad trip to Ghana that I was fortunate enough to be one of the first class of undergraduate students to be able to embark on. After graduation I was hired at the Rainier Vista Boys and Girls Club as the Education Coordinator Assistant. Here I was able to further tackle the issues surrounding educational achievement within underrepresented populations, but at en even earlier age than was allowed to me while at Washington in the Dream Project. I wish to work at the higher education level again because I grew up in a family where disproportionate education was a reality, and I watched as some of my family members prospered in school as others were overlooked because of the opportunities given to them. With this experience in my childhood I decided I wanted to be a catalyst for aiding the less fortunate attain the education they need and deserve. I believe education is the necessary rope for which young adults can use to pull themselves out of bad situations into better ones. I would be a great fit for this position because I’m a hungry young talent that is motivated and looking to make waves in the education field, and I would love to do that starting in my own backyard of the Pacific Northwest.

Hobbies
I like to paint in my free time as well as stay active with sports and would love to be able to do this with any students I tutor. I believe that an active lifestyle is conducive to an active and budding intellect in all aspects. Whether creatively with art, physically with sports, or intellectually in the classroom, all forms of intelligence need to be exercised regularly to foster growth.
