Experience

I spent the early years of my undergraduate education tutoring friends and other students in a range of subjects from statistics to philosophy and began to develop a method for and great love of teaching. Riding that wave of enthusiasm I focused my studies on Environmental Education, studying what's called Engaged Pedagogy, ultimately designing and implementing several full lessons to local students. I approach tutoring with the basic understanding that all students, regardless of background, previous experience, or material have the tools necessary to learn. I also know that every student has a different strength or "intelligence" that works best for them. With new students I first identify what approach works best for them, then break down the material, and finally challenge the student to put the pieces back together. This builds confidence and proficiency and shows the student that they have the power to comprehend any material. I've applied this method to students in the classroom and in individual tutoring sessions and found real success and growth.
